Boxbe.com
Boxbe is a service that gives you a public email address that makes it easy for your friends and family to reach you, but a bit more difficult for advertisers to get to you.
Instead of giving out your personal email address when shopping online, signing up for a service, or even posting it on your blog, use your boxbe email which is your username@boxbe.com. Anyone who knows you will be able to email you no problem, but everyone else will have to prove they know you by answering some questions or be forced to pay a fee. You will then receive a percentage of this fee. You determine the price these “unknowns” will have to pay. You also have a choice of what you want to do with the funds you accumulate. You can donate them to charity, send them to yourself via paypal, send them to yourself via paper check, or use them to make member contact payments if you want to reach people that you don’t know.
When you sign up, boxbe also gives you the option to let them anonymously promote you to advertisers who may be willing to pay you to send you offers. You can also easily add your contacts from your aol, hotmail, yahoo, plaxo, outlook, or gmail address book into the pre-approved category. All of your pre-approved emails sent to your boxbe account will be forwarded to your “real” email, as well as notices letting you know that there are “quarantined ” or in other words emails waiting for approval. So, the only reason you would need to ever log in to your boxbe account would be to approve or deny those emails.
I am going to use boxbe for a few weeks and I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m not counting on making much money, if any, but it would be nice to see some of those annoying advertisers pay to get in touch with me.
