Registration
To sign up, just give them your email and a phone number to link to your account. You will receive an ID and then you can login to Fōnpods and select your various podcast stations. Then, just call their telephone number and begin to listen to your favorite podcasts. If you are on a different phone, you can just enter in your Fōnpods password and you’re on your way.
My opinion
Good idea? Yes. Easy to use? Yes. Do we need more people driving around and playing with their cell phones? No. The thing is, that while this service is free, most cell phone services are not. Why waste my minutes listening to a podcast on my cell phone when I can just as easily do it in front of my computer. Another factor to think about is how many people would actually “put away their ipods or mp3 players”? Ipods cost a lot of money and most people wouldn’t want to give them up. If they’re already downloading their music they can just as easily download a podcast too.
I’m not saying Fōnpods is a bad idea. There may come a time in my life when a friend may call me and say, “You have GOT to check out this podcast!” and I’ll be walking in a desert somewhere wishing I had signed up for Fōnpods. Quick cell phone registration? That would be cool.
